The Affirming Church Team led the congregation through the Open Hearts Affirming Ministry Program to a unanimous vote to become an Affirming Congregation.  Affirming is a designation.  Trinity United Church in Newmarket joins more than 300 United Churches across Canada listed as a safe space for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and other marginalized groups.

The Affirming and Inclusivity Team is looking for new members.  Join us!

We meet on the first Monday evening of every month.  In 2024, the Affirming and Inclusivity Team is planning an Affirming Celebration Service where Trinity receives our Certificate from Affirm United.  This will be a big public event for us to celebrate with the community that our congregation has completed the Open Hearts Program and welcomes the Pride Community and other marginalized groups.  This will be held on York Pride Festival weekend, Sunday, June 16.

PIE Day, March 14 (3.14) is a special day for Affirming Ministries every year.  On March 10, 2024, the Affirming and Inclusivity Team will be serving pies at Fill My Cup to remind us that we are committed to the Public, Intentional, and Explicit inclusion of 2SLGBTQIA+ people.

June is Pride Month in York Region.  The Affirming and Inclusivity Team will plan participation in the York Pride Parade, Saturday, June 15.  We wish to continue Trinity’s hospitality role, and we hope to assemble a team of Trinity folk to march in the parade for the first time this year!

Last year, we held a Pride Month Family Activity Day, which may become an annual event.

The Affirming and Inclusivity Team maintains a bulletin board in Trinity Hall with information and resources for the Pride community.  We have a small collection of books and a large collection of brochures.

We will continue to give prominence to the Pride community, but will add anti-racism as a focus for 2025.

Join us as we work on inclusivity and diversity and to unlearn prejudice and discrimination.  We want Trinity to be a place where people feel safe to be their authentic selves!
