Rev. Sydney Elias

Minister
Rev. Sydney’s ministry commenced in his birthplace, Guyana. Following his ministerial studies
at the United Theological College of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, he served as a
Minister with the Guyana Conference of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the
Americas.
In July 2004, Rev. Sydney and his family relocated to Canada. Prior to joining Trinity
Newmarket, he served as minister to United Church congregations in Scarborough, Norwich,
Kitchener, and Caledon. He is deeply committed to the Church's mission and ministries and has a particular concern for the poor, marginalized, and those experiencing hopelessness.
Rev. Sydney is married to Celena, and together they have three children: Dominic, Imani, and
Shanecia.

Kevin Heung
Music Director
Kevin graduated in Moscow as a pianist, piano teacher, accompanist, and ensemble performer. His piano professor, Vladimir Selivokhin—First Prize Winner of the 1968 International Busoni Piano Competition in Italy, praised him as a “poetic pianist, showing musicality, energy, and technique.” He served as Head of Music in an international Christian school for over 15 years. His students have won more than 100 prizes in piano competitions across North America, Europe and Asia. In one year, two of his students were accepted into the Royal College of Music (UK), recognizing his teaching achievements. He is also the author of piano exam lecture materials.
Kevin is passionate about serving the church through music, bringing both traditional and contemporary styles of worship, and fostering a meaningful and inclusive environment where people can grow in faith. He is proud to serve Trinity United Church Newmarket, and to contribute to its strong musical tradition spanning over two centuries.

Jennifer Carter
Youth & Community Outreach Coordinator
Jen graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. She later completed a graduate certificate in Infant and Early Child Mental Health at Seneca College. Jen has a passion for working with children and youth and spent many years working as an Intervention Support Worker.
