The recording I wanted to share with you this week is one of our own.
It is one of our first attempts at an SATB multitrack recording. I found the process to be both humbling and touching. Humbling because the technology, at least in this format, does set limits to creativity. It does preclude us from expressing certain things, from playing with time and dynamics in a way in which we could in a live setting; even the sound that we hear is no longer the sound of our voices, but a reproduction of different microphones in the varying acoustics of our home studios.
Touching because, despite all this, the same technology allows us to do something that we all dearly love, and that is to make music together. The piece I have chosen for this is called "Esto les Digo" (This I tell you) by K. Lange. It is a piece you may have heard at Trinity, and a piece I wanted everyone to hear again during one of our online services. In a surprising turn of events, a fitting online service proved elusive. It is a Spanish setting of Matthew 18:19-20:
19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
Thank you, as always, dear friends! Hope you find our little experiment interesting. Please go easy on us, and, as always, I hope you are well these days.
