Worship Moments - March 13

Updated: Mar 14

Dear friends

During these times when change is happening so rapidly it is easy to feel isolated and discouraged. What can we do as a community of faith?

I suggest that we pray together. I invite you to join with our brothers and sisters in Christ and turn to God in prayer. Throughout the rest of Lent I will offer daily Worship Moments with hymns and prayers.

Let us turn to God and offer prayers knowing we are united by God’s Spirit as we pray as the people of Trinity.

Hymn

Spirit, Open My Heart (MV 79)

Spirit, open my heart to the joy and pain of living.

As you love may I love,

in receiving and in giving.

Spirit, open my heart.

God, replace my stony heart with a heart that’s kind and tender.

All my coldness and fear to your grace I now surrender.

Spirit, open my heart to the joy and pain of living.

As you love may I love,

in receiving and in giving.

Spirit, open my heart.

Write your love upon my heart as my law, my goal, my story.

In each thought, word, and deed, may my living bring you glory.

Spirit, open my heart to the joy and pain of living.

As you love may I love,

in receiving and in giving.

Spirit, open my heart.

May I weep with those who weep, share the joy of sister, brother. In the welcome of Christ, may we welcome one another.

Spirit, open my heart to the joy and pain of living.

As you love may I love,

in receiving and in giving.

Spirit, open my heart.

Prayer

God of Grace,

As the pace of life changes help us to recognize that each time we refrain from handshakes and hugs, wash our hands or remove ourselves from activities that these are acts of love and care not only for ourselves and those we love, but also for those who are vulnerable to the coronavirus.

Spirit, open our hearts.

God we pray

For young and old who are suffering conflict and fear,

may you bring peace.

For all people who long for food and water, may they be filled.

For all who long for justice, may it be fulfilled.

Spirit, open our hearts.

We pray also for ourselves and our community:

  • That those in hospital and in care feel your strength.

  • That those who are alone and anxious feel you near.

  • That those who are ill in body and in spirit be comforted.

  • That our friends and family be blessed by healing and love.

Spirit, open our hearts.

We pray in the name of Jesus - the light of the world.

Amen
